For piano.

Two Hands, One Field
Studio was written during a masterclass on contemporary piano writing led by Emanuele Torquati at the Conservatorio Bonporti, Trento, while work was already underway on a semi-aleatoric piece for piano and voice based on the fifth canto of Dante's Inferno. The encounter with Berio's Piano Concerto — being analysed in parallel — suggested using similar material, reworked according to its own logic.
The title was chosen after the fact: Studio seemed the most accurate word, because that is what it was — an exploration of writing for the piano. The piece unfolds in two continuous sections, without interruption except the minimum required to prepare the tonal pedal. What became clear only later is that the two hands move as independent voices, each attempting to influence the other, until they converge into a single sound.
The work received its world premiere on 8 May 2010, performed by Sebastiano Evangelista, at the closing concert of the Mondi Sonori festival, Conservatorio Bonporti, Trento — a programme of world premieres by composers from the Conservatory's composition class.
