The Estrangement of the Night Shift
N.I.T.H. — Night In The Hospital — is a video art work built from 49 night-time recordings made inside a hospital. The footage was first assembled into a twenty-minute flow, then compressed into 3'56" through a process of radical selection: what remains is the perceptual residue of those hours — suspended, non-ordinary, unsettling in their quiet.
The visual material is processed directly through Tinrocket's Olli app, which transforms each clip into a painterly texture and restores to familiar spaces their true strangeness. Editing was carried out in Adobe Premiere Pro using blending modes, masking, and colour correction.
The soundscape is constructed from original field recordings made with a Zoom H4n Pro at 44,100 Hz — a spinning top, a melodica, the ambient hum of an escalator — then processed in Adobe Audition through LFO and HFO filters, time stretching, pitch shifting, and chorus effects. The synthetic layer draws on VST instruments emulating vintage analogue synthesisers. Final mixing and mastering were completed in Pro Tools.
