Video developed from the theatre production Amarantus
Year: 2024
A video work that traces the creative and natural cycles of resilience through the figure of artist Gelsomina Bassetti and the amaranth plant — both symbols of vitality, adaptation, and regeneration.
Images from Bassetti's garden and studio interweave with her paintings and written phrases, following the amaranth from seed to bloom. The narrative unfolds through two parallel visual threads: the organic growth of the plant and the artistic process of the painter, both sustained by patience, time, and an intrinsic force to persist.
My work
I handled all aspects of post-production: video editing in Premiere Pro and original music composition in Pro Tools.
Video Editing & Montage — I structured the visual flow to alternate between intimate documentation (Bassetti in her studio, her hands at work) and the slow transformation of the amaranth plant, creating a visual rhythm that mirrors natural and creative cycles.
Music Composition — The soundtrack combines electronic processing of orchestral libraries with a variation on Bach's Goldberg Variations. Bassetti once mentioned she loved that piece, so I used it as harmonic material, re-imagining it in a progressive electronic style — a deliberate echo of transformation and regeneration through reinterpretation.
The music was composed using sample libraries, electronically manipulated and structured in a progressive arrangement that evolves alongside the visual narrative.
